About Us!

Welcome to the Grace Hills Baptist Church family.  We are excited to introduce you to a warm caring congregation.  We are striving to follow after Christ by living out his commands and sharing his love and grace with the Appomattox community. As we do, we are encouraged by the words of the prophet Jeremiah, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (JER: 29:11) At Grace Hills, the future is bright.  We look forward to seeing where God is taking us as we serve him together.

Founded in May 2004, Grace Hills Baptist Church, moved to its permanent facility located on Pumping Station Road in Appomattox in December 2005. The church has grown and thrives as a mission outpost for the kingdom of God. With a heart for one another and a spontaneous welcome to all, the congregation meets each Sunday for Bible study at 10:00 A.M. Worship is at 11:00 A.M in the sanctuary.  Other worship and congregational meetings include Bible studies, mission education, young adult, youth, and children’s groups. Christian fellowship is a strong part of Grace Hills as we seek to encourage one another in growth, service, and outreach.  The music program at Grace Hills is open to all who will share their talents with Choir and Bell groups meeting weekly or monthly. Numerous mission and service opportunities are available at various times throughout the week.

Many outreach ministries extend into the community.  Our Good Neighbor Team is a resource to the community for those with questions. The Grace Hills Benevolence Committee is a ministry of the Deacons. Our Community Ministry Team offers a food pantry. Grace Hills is pleased to offer the Grace Hills Early Learning Center as a place for the care and education for preschool and after-school care.

Introducing our new pastor:

Reverend Michael Duncan

Rev. Michael L. Duncan, Jr. began as pastor of Grace Hills on August 1, 2023. Rev. Duncan grew up in Jacksonville, AL, and he graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1998 with a BS degree in Chemistry and minors in English and Environmental Management. After a few years working as an environmental engineer with Westinghouse, Rev. Duncan followed God’s lead to seminary. He graduated in 2004 from Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology with a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Christian Education. He was licensed to ministry by FBC Williams, his home church in Alabama and ordained to ministry by Peachtree Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.

Rev. Duncan has served previously in Virginia at Central Baptist Church in Altavista and has most recently served for almost nine years at Drexel FBC in North Carolina. He is a fan of SEC football, Tony Bennett’s UVA basketball program, and Atlanta Braves baseball. He enjoys golf, a good story, and time with his family. He plans to invest himself in the Appomattox community and especially the lives of Grace Hills’ membership.
